The Voodoo Experience

Halloweekend for many brought about chilly nights and little clothing, but for me it held music. Lots of music. (and chilly nights and little clothing). Voodoo Fest, a music festival in the heart of New Orleans, housed Halloween enthusiasts and shrimp po’boys alike. Kendrick Lamar, the Foo Fighters, and the Killers were headlining, but some other artists included Kehlani, Louis the Child, and Cold War Kids. While lacking in the "arts experience" as advertised, Voodoo brought on acts that left an impact. These are the photos from my weekend among the headbangers and horror lovers.

She's An Animal

Senior art student Amie Aulwes creates her BFA exhibit titled “She’s An Animal”, which uses multimedia screenprinting and sculpture. “I would like to think of myself as both an artist and an activist,” she says of her work that explores the relationship between women and female animals, and the feminist messages that can be drawn from it.

The exhibit ran from April 15-19, 2019, at the University of Iowa.

Women's March 2019

The Women’s March in Iowa City took place on January 19, 2019 in order to provide a platform for social change for the women on Iowa.

“The Iowa march anniversary [was] one of many nationwide events honoring the movement that brought out millions of marchers on January 21, 2017, in what is considered the largest single-day demonstration in U.S. history… Our march will represent voices of resistance aligned with our Unity Principles -- ending violence, civil rights, reproductive rights, LBGTQIA rights, workers' rights, disability rights, immigrant rights, Indigenous peoples' rights and environmental justice.” -It’s Time to March Again- Iowa City Facebook Page
